Short cv:
Doctorate student Yan Mesquita develops his research on microplastic concentration and accumulation on sedimentary environments. He has developed his master’s thesis on microplastic distribution on different zones from sandy beaches in Brazil. Now, in the PhD thesis, his project seeks to understand the microplastic present in Antarctic sediment, identifying possible sources, and variables that increase/decrease the accumulation. Apart from surface sediment samples, that can provide answers to the spatial distribution of the recent years and the relationship with sediment dynamics, his project will investigate sediment cores, which can provide insights to how this contaminant possibly accumulates in these regions along the recent decades. Samples were collected on the scope of CARBMET project “As múltiplas faces do CARBon organico e METtais no ecossistema subantartico”.
