General information
The scientific expedition is part of the curriculum of the international master programme “Climate Change and Marine Sciences”, currently implemented at the Atlantic Technical University of Cabo Verde (UTA) in the framework of the BMBF-funded WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) programme. The shipboard training will take place during the scientific cruise expected to depart from Mindelo, Cabo Verde, on 1 May 2026 and arrive in Bremerhaven, Germany, on 19 May 2026.
The curriculum of the WASCAL Floating University includes lectures on topics such as ocean observation and marine ecology, as well as hands-on research activities, including measurements of ocean surface properties.

What is offered
In addition to the training onboard the R/V Polarstern, the trainee attended:
- a pre-cruise seminar at the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (OSCM), Cabo Verde, from 27–29 April 2026, and
- a post-cruise seminar at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany, from 18–19 May 2026.
