Carbonate chemistry variability within a giant kelp farm in an upwelling system in Namibia

Short CV

With a background in Applied Chemistry, I am currently completing my MSc in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in Namibia. My research examines carbonate chemistry dynamics within a cultivated giant kelp farm near Lüderitz, focusing on how kelp interacts with naturally variable, low-pH conditions in an upwelling system. Working in this environment has shaped my interest in oceanography, particularly in understanding how physical forcing and biological processes drive short-term variability in coastal waters.
A defining experience was participating in the Around Africa mission, where sailing across the North Atlantic strengthened my commitment to this field. I am developing a focused interest in ocean observation and modelling, with the aim of improving how we interpret highly dynamic systems such as the Benguela. Ultimately, I intend to apply these skills within Namibia to support practical, data-driven marine research and management.
