Short CV

I am Frank Mirobo, an assistant lecturer at the University of Dodoma-Tanzania and a marine ecologist specializing in the ecology, management, and conservation of threatened and endangered marine species, including sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks. I am actively involved in promoting ocean literacy among youth in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region and contribute as a marine blogger, science communicator, and storyteller. Moreover, am strong advocate for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, where I champion capacity building, youth inclusion, and equitable opportunities for underrepresented communities in ocean conservation.

During the Around Africa expedition with OceanX and OceanQuest, I worked on projects focused on environmental DNA (eDNA) to explore its application in detecting and monitoring marine biodiversity. In parallel, I contributed to a science communication initiative aimed at translating deep-sea science into accessible knowledge for policymakers and diverse stakeholders. These experiences have strengthened my skills in both research and communication, positioning me to advance as a deep-sea researcher and science communicator.

Looking ahead, I aim to further explore deep-sea science (Fisheries, Observation, Mapping, and conservation while contributing to improved management, policy, and governance frameworks that support the sustainable use and conservation of deep-sea resources.
