Short CV

I am an oceanographer with a Ph.D. in Coastal Oceanography. I am currently a full-time Professor-Researcher at the Facultad de Ciencias Marinas, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (FCM-UABC), where I am part of the Phytoplankton Ecology Team (POPEYE-FCM). My work bridges marine bio-optics, ocean color remote sensing, and phytoplankton ecology to better understand coastal and oceanic ecosystems. From ship to satellite to classroom, I connect field observations, optical and biological datasets, and teaching practices through interdisciplinary approaches.

At FCM-UABC, I teach undergraduate courses including Phytoplankton Monitoring, Biology, Selected Topics in Biological Oceanography, and Research Methodology. I mentor students in field and laboratory techniques such as optical profiling, plankton sampling, pigment analysis, and microscopy. I also coordinate hands-on activities and short trainings focused on safety, inclusion, and standardized field and laboratory protocols. In addition, I currently serve as the Coordinator for Outreach and Science Communication of the Faculty, organizing public engagement activities, seminars, and educational visits.
